BYOD Setup Steps

byod2-1

New laptop? Start here to get it ready for use at Tenison Woods College.

Please take the time to read through this information, following the links to learn about the responsibility of owning and using a laptop and accessing the online world. We hope you find these steps (and the many other articles found on the site) helpful and pick up some useful tips along the way!

Starting out

  • When you turn on a brand new laptop for the first time, it will want to connect to the internet and create a free Microsoft or Apple account if you don't already have one.
This is a personal account, separate from your school login and enables extra functionality and services. Your school login is used later for Microsoft Office and OneDrive.
  • Remember your device login password. Write it down in a safe place if needed. Add a hint if prompted.
  • Make sure your device is ready to use and connected to the internet before continuing with the setup steps below.

School account

If you require any assistance with your school user account or logging in to Office 365, please use the 'Contact ICT Support' tab at the top of the page to log a support ticket with the ICT department.

This page contains a comprehensive list, but after running through the intial setup, you really only need to do a few things to be ready for school.

Once you have your school account, these 3 steps will have your laptop ready to go:

The SEQTA and Portal@TWC web pages are your jump off points to all of the school's ICT services.

Ensure you set the SEQTA  (https://learn.tenison.catholic.edu.au) and Portal@TWC (https://tenison.catholic.edu.au/portaltwc) pages as a bookmark or favourite in your internet browser.

See here for a quick guide on how to use SEQTA Learn.

See here for a quick guide on how to use Portal@TWC.

Another must have! Microsoft office is heavily utilised during lessons at Tenison Woods College. Microsoft Teams is also included as part of office or may be installed separately.

You'll need to store your files in the school O365 cloud. By saving here, you will have backups covered. Plan for your laptop to fail as accidents happen.
