Titans USA Tour: Day 14 - Friday 8 December 2023

It’s all quiet on the western front today….eerily quiet, which does not make for a juicy blog :(.

After their first night with their homestays, the students had to back up with a day at school. A lucky few were homestaying with seniors who had the first period off so had a late start, while the rest had to front up at 8.30am. A little bleary eyed from the late night chats, our Aussie poppets took to the classes. Some had maths, science and engineering (lucky), while others dabbled in PE and dance. There’s rumours a couple fell asleep in dance, hopefully it wasn’t in the midst of a pirouette! In true American high school style, students also had the chance to get involved in a pep rally, complete with chanting, cheering and pepping, would you expect anything less?

A few of the lucky ones had the real American experience and got to head to the Mall in the afternoon. And what visit wouldn't be complete without a Santa photo with the family…the whole family. Mackye was even lucky enough to sit on Santa’s lap, giving him the perfect opportunity to state his case that he had indeed been a good boy this year. Honest!

After converging at Antelope High School this afternoon to support the Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys teams our troop headed off for their second homestay night. Tonight there’s talk of Christmas light viewing, bowling, Walmart Christmas pants shopping and maybe the ice cream shop. Tomorrow night, there's smores, smores I say - we're all excited :)

Junior Varsity Boys - 54-38
Another solid team effort from our JV Boys today. Lead by Jonty with unselfish play, who did a great job bringing the whole team into the game. Deacon was unstoppable both ends of the court as well as Jace proving to be too much for Oakmont High School. Geoffrey (team captain) was a real force in the paint today. the strength of the bench was the difference between the two teams. Very proud of our Titans today.

Varsity Boys 67-63
A tough second round match up and a shorter rotation due to injuries to Mitch and Taj meant the boys needed to be very focused and really up for this contest. A solid first half and some good shooting from Harry Mules and great hustle plays from Cayde Watson gave our side a small buffer at the half.

Fatigue set in and some breakdowns on defence and some missed shots gave our opponents the lead. A lot of character was shown but we could not manage to get over the line.

The Flag
The flag will be in a two day hiatus until we reconvene as a group on Sunday, so in the interim it’s in the care of our last recipient, Jase. Fingers crossed it’s still in his possession in two days time, he does have a habit of misplacing items….
