At Tenison Woods College, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) Program is offered to students from Reception to Year 6, providing hands-on learning experiences that nurture healthy habits, sustainability, and a love of fresh food. Students actively engage with a variety of garden spaces across the school, where they grow seasonal produce from scratch, learn about plant care, composting, recycling, and the importance of biodiversity.
Our garden spaces—including raised beds, sensory plant pots, and productive kitchen plots—encourage reflection, exploration, and teamwork. In the kitchen, students transform their homegrown harvest into delicious, wholesome meals, developing valuable life skills as they work together to prepare and enjoy food made from fresh, natural ingredients.
Rooted in the garden-to-plate philosophy, the SAKG program promotes a deeper understanding of where food comes from and the impact of our choices on personal health and the environment.
