Junior School Community R - 6

Learning for Life

Our Junior School provides an engaging learning environment for students from Reception to Year 6, where every student is encouraged to ‘let their light shine’.

We aim to have a learning environment where students feel secure and supported to achieve their best. The Junior School has its own dedicated learning and play areas and boasts a brand new Reception building, the MacKillop Community Centre, which opened in 2021. Students also have access to our shared College facilities, including the Library, Reception - Year 9 Canteen and the Barrie Holmes Stadium.

Our Junior School offers a supportive environment with rich learning experiences in Literacy and Numeracy and other curriculum offerings. Through differentiated learning we cater for the needs of students, who are supported not only by teaching staff, but dedicated Pathways and Wellbeing Coordinators.

The Junior School offers Italian, an extensive Arts program, Music and Physical Education that is scheduled in every week.

Tenison Woods College places a strong commitment to pastoral care, focusing on developing the whole person as well as academically extending all learners, and building relationships with families and the school community.

The College is preparing for further developments in the Junior School, with construction of a new Year 1-6 Building, due to be completed and ready for occupation by the beginning of the 2023 school year. The new building with feature contemporary learning spaces, complementing the architecture and design of the recently constructed Reception building.

MacKillop Community Centre

The College opened its doors to the brand new Reception Building, The MacKillop Community Centre, at the commencement of 2021. Students have been thriving in this new learning environment, which was custom designed to accentuate a Reggio Emelia inspired pedagogy and caters directly to the needs of Reception students as they begin their educational journey.

The new Reception Building allows for a fifth classroom space, which will be operational in 2022.

The MacKillop Community Centre features open classroom studios with breakout and meeting rooms, a large creative maker studio, two unique learning pods, as well as a spacious sensory room. At the heart of the building; a central piazza area allows collaboration between all classes at various times throughout the day. The exterior of this wonderful centre showcases an impressive contemporary nature playground. The building is state-of-the art in both its design and function.
