Timor-Leste Immersion

24.07.25

With the Timor-Leste delegation returning to Australia on Sunday during the mid-point of the school holidays, that leaves the Immersion over for another year.

The second half of the immersion was spent at our sister school, COSAFRAX in Hatolia, filled with playing, teaching and learning, as well as trips to smaller nearby villages to gift stationery packs to incredibly worthy recipients, and of course, no shortage of dancing. We also learnt which students will be visiting our College for our second annual Exchange Trip in Term4, and presented them with Tenison Woods College backpacks.

Saying goodbye was hard. As Eddie says, “It rains in Timor when we bid farewell.” On their final morning, staff and students watched the flag-raising ceremony and then shook the hand of every student in the school before being ushered out, ready for their next adventure, visiting Balibo and Palaka, and returning to Dili.

Everyone would have been happy if the flight had been cancelled, but alas, they returned safely to Australia on Sunday.

"The memories will live on, and already many students are planning to return. As always, the trip is life-changing and life-affirming. We leave Timor better people for having gone, more forgiving, kinder, more grateful, and deeply thankful for the experience."

Tenison Woods College respectfully acknowledges the Boandik people are the First Nations people of the Mount Gambier South Eastern region of South Australia and pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past, present and emerging.
