1 Minute on the Clock for Year 5 Students

12.06.25

Do you think you could get up in front of a crowd and talk for a minute?

What about if you chose a random topic and had no time to prepare? That’s the challenge our Year 5 students have taken on this term!

On Wednesday 11th June our Year 5 students and staff welcomed local Lions Club members to our school to judge the annual Lions Mad Minute Speaking Competition. Concluding our Term 2 English unit on oral presentation and speaking skills, students participated in this challenge with great enthusiasm and bravery.

We would like to thank the local Lions Club and its members for their ongoing facilitation and support of this event across the South East. We will be selecting 3 students from Tenison Woods College to represent our school at the Mad Minute Grand Challenge in Week 10, competing against Year 5 students from the greater Mount Gambier region.

We had almost 90 students participate on the day, doing their absolute best with the random topics they selected, whilst under pressure in front of an audience. A wonderful display of courage by individuals and a wonderful supportive audience full of peers made for a very fulfilling experience, we are so proud of all of our students!

We congratulate the following students for their selection by the Lions Members as top 3 for their classes, winning a medal, certificate and small cash prize donated by the Lions Club.

5A: Adhiraj Gulati, Hudson Rogers, Lukas Yeates
5B: Lacey Button, Joseph Dikete, Gracie Tremelling
5C: Paddy Jennings, Ryder Sealey, Toby Telford
5D: Priya Koppe, Flynn Buckley, and Isabella Aarts.

We have some wonderful speakers, debaters and performers in our midst!
