Year 9 Splendid Egg Excursion

29.05.25

Liam Brokensha from The Splendid Egg was kind enough to host three Agriculture classes last week giving our students an understanding of all things free-range eggs. Operating two systems of 1000 laying Isa hens and High Lines protected by Maremma dogs, their free-range pasture system allows the chickens to lay approximately 20,000 eggs a year.

All eggs are processed on site in Mount Gambier on Mondays for distribution all the way from Port Fairy to Adelaide. If you have eaten eggs at a local restaurant, you have likely enjoyed a 'Splendid Egg'.

Further to the Agriculture classes visit to The Splendid Egg, we were very excited to have layer hens provided to the College by The Splended Egg. We are very grateful to the Brokensha family for supporting our endeavors, having chickens on-site will provide vital hands on learning for our students.

Our Agriculture classes and maintenance team have worked very hard to create an environment that gives the new chickens a happy home.
