State Theatre Group Visit

02.05.25

Our senior Drama students were fortunate to take part in a dynamic and inspiring workshop delivered by a visiting team of theatre professionals. The workshop catered to both on-stage performers and off-stage creatives, allowing students from Stage 1 and Stage 2 Drama to explore a range of theatrical disciplines. Led by Brittany and Andrew (actors/directors), students immersed themselves in character development and physicality through comedic excerpts from classic Monty Python scripts. The sessions encouraged bold choices, expressive movement, and collaborative scene work. Students interested in backstage and production roles worked alongside Grace, an experienced Stage Manager, to unpack the same scripts through a technical lens. They explored the impact of lighting, sound, and staging choices, gaining valuable insights into the behind-the-scenes world of theatre. The workshop concluded with a showcase of student-devised scenes and production concepts, followed by group reflections on what artistic decisions worked well and why. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to refine their skills, work with professionals, and engage in critical thinking about the dramatic arts. We extend our thanks to the State Theatre Group for making this opportunity possible. Experiences like this play a huge role in re-energising students and nurturing future artists in our community.
