The girls' team travelled to Adelaide to compete in two matches at Concordia Oval. Captains Heidi Berkin and Lana Shepherd played a key role in motivating the team and leading by example on the field, contributing to standout performances in both games.
Game 1: vs. Concordia (37-20) The first match against Concordia proved to be a challenging contest, with both teams displaying impressive skills. Tenison gained an early advantage in the first quarter, which they extended into the second quarter, leading at halftime. Our team had multiple goal scorers contributing to the scoreboard. Concordia mounted a strong comeback in the third quarter, scoring a few quick goals. Despite this, our defence remained resolute, with Penny Coleman standing out with her exceptional tackling and marking across the half-back line. Although the girls appeared fatigued in the third quarter, they rallied and found renewed energy. The midfielders, notably Bell Coghlan and Heidi, significantly contributed by driving the ball forward and creating scoring opportunities.
Game 2: vs. Brighton (35-11) In the second game, the team faced Brighton in a slightly more physical encounter, with only a 20-minute break between matches. The girls again scored early and steadily built on their lead throughout the game, ultimately securing a comfortable 24-point victory.
Edie’s performance in the ruck contests was particularly noteworthy, as she combined effectively with Heidi, Bell, and Chloe and Hannah Bellinger to achieve excellent centre clearances. The defence remained strong, with the entire back line playing a crucial role in maintaining solidity. The wings worked diligently to connect play and neutralize Brighton’s advances into the forward line.
Once more, the team benefited from multiple goal scorers, with all forwards contributing to the scoring opportunities and overall team effort.
The girls showcased resilience, skill, and teamwork throughout both matches, leading to a successful day of football. This means the girls will now play off in them Div 2 Grand Final against Heathfield High School in week 7 to determine the overall champions of our division. Narelle Ryan | Coach
