Stage 1 and 2 Drama Performance - Teen

09.06.21

The Stage 1 and 2 Drama class has had the chance to create our own theatre company in 2021, which the students have named Cacophony of Whispers. Our mission statement is that:

“Our purpose is to create a revolutionary, entertaining theatre experience. Rethinking drama to immerse our viewers into the world of theatre, we aspire to present a high-quality performance whilst showcasing the shared talents of our company.”

I think it is safe to say that we achieved this with our latest production, performed at Wehl Street Theatre on Wednesday 2 June. Kristen Doherty’s 'Teen' gave us the opportunity to present a snapshot of life as a teenager. We approached this play as an opportunity to explore the challenge presented by actors playing multiple roles onstage. This impacted all areas of stagecraft, both onstage and offstage. To this end, we explored some of the acting techniques of Bertolt Brecht and the audience observed the actors perform their own scene changes and even change their costumes. The night was a resounding success, and the students should be extremely proud of their hard work!
