Knockout Netball Finals

24.09.21

Recently the 8/9, 10 and Open netball teams competed in the Netball State Finals. After winning all of their games in the local round of competitions, all three teams made it through to the finals in Adelaide.

The 8/9 girls started the day with a solid win against Henley High, with the girls easily scoring and working together. The second match against Trinity proved to be a tough game. Despite playing hard, the girls fell short in the final result. Finishing second in their pool, the 8/9 team crossed over with Westminster in the semi-finals. The girls started well, however some sharp shooting from the opposition team proved to be too much, with Tenison Woods College going down in the semis. Overall, the Year 8/9 team finished fourth in the state, which is a fantastic effort.

The Year 10 team started their victory campaign against Blackwood. After a tight start, the girls broke away and won their first game convincingly. A games break meant the girls could rest before coming up against tough opponent Scotch College. Once again, the girls proved to be too strong, securing their spot in the cross-over semi-final against Trinity. The Year 10 team hit the court determined to win, and with some skillful intercepts and great defending, the girls made it through to the grand final against Cabra Dominican College. At the quarter time break, the score was tie with 8 all, both teams desperate to win the State Title. The College's Year 10 team played with intensity and talent, and at the end of the game claimed victory by 8 points and were named the State Champions!

The Open girls had a great start to the day with a 16-goal win against Tatachilla. The girls’ second match against Trinity was a much tougher game, and the open team had to work hard, but with some vital defensive stops, Tenison Woods College came out on top by two goals. The cross-over semis saw the girls come across favourites, Immanuel College. A good start meant the girls were only one goal behind at the half-time break, however some changes to Immanuel’s lineup proved to be too strong and tall under the basket, with the girls eventually going down by 10. Overall, the open girls finished third in the state, a tremendous effort.

Congratulations to all girls involved on the day, and a massive thank you to Heidi Clark, Sharon Adams and Donna Denton for coaching! Well done to all!
