The study of Stage 1 Outdoor Education provides students with opportunities to extend their engagement in outdoor experiences, whilst developing social skills, self confidence, team work and personal growth.
Through the study of three focus areas -environment and conservation; planning and management; and personal and social growth and development - students continue to develop skills and understanding surrounding preparation and planning for outdoor experiences, personal connection to Country, whilst developing their teamwork and practical outdoor skills.
As well as participating in each outdoor experience, students develop an understanding of ecosystems and the impacts of human actions and decisions through the study of natural environments and wilderness areas. They develop knowledge and understanding of environmental systems and their conservation.
In Semester 2, students will prepare for and participate in either of the following expeditions (please note associated costs):
Option 1: Alpine Adventure Expedition (X-Country skiing & downhill skiing or snowboarding), Victoria. 5 nights. $2400 approximately.
Option 2: Rock Climbing and Bushwalking. Mount Arapiles & Grampians NP. 4 nights. $370 approximately.
Students will also conduct an environmental investigation of their own choice, either related to the landscape they will visit during their expedition or a local environmental issue. Throughout the semester, students will engage in ongoing revegetation and conservation projects within our local region, closely tied to the college sustainability goals.
This is a practical subject, with students undertaking many activities off campus. Camps and excursions are an essential element to this course and as such, attendance (for one camp) is compulsory.

Please be aware that participation in camp experiences and day excursions is a compulsory component of the course. Associated costs will be charged to each student prior to the commencement of the course. Futher information will be provided to students selecting Option 1 once numbers are finalised.
