Subject Description

Stage 2 English Literary Studies is all about exploring big ideas in stories, plays, poems, and films. You’ll delve into a diverse range of texts, from novels and films to poetry and short pieces, learning to think critically about their meaning and significance.

You’ll get to:

  • Share and discuss ideas with others
  • Build your own opinions using evidence from the text
  • Learn how to write convincing arguments
  • Explore different points of view and critical perspectives

This subject looks at how writers use language to reflect or challenge culture, identity, and the world around us. You’ll explore the powerful connection between authors, audiences, and the time and place the text was created.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to understand and respond to texts in thoughtful and creative ways- a valuable skill for life beyond school.

Plus, if you pass with a C- or higher, you’ll also meet the SACE literacy requirement.
