This course provides students with an introduction to the hospitality industry and practical experience in catering activities, some of which will be done outside of school hours. The Academy of Hospitality works as a trade school using a commercial kitchen to cover SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 requirements in relation to practicals. The Academy also caters for a number of internal and external functions including luncheons and cocktail parties. Students will also gain VET accreditation in Certificate 1 in Kitchen Operations and Hospitality, and receive regular visits from industry professionals from the local industry. Students will also assist and provide dishes for fellow students through the Sugarloaf Café and be assessed in customer service and barista skills.
Professional standards of presentation, service and skill levels are the primary focus of the industry and are reflected in the training provided through the Academy. The aim is to provide high quality practical and theory based lessons to prepare tomorrow’s hospitality leaders.
