Flexible Learning Centre

The Flexible Learning Centre (FLC) is an alternative education option for young people seeking to complete their SACE. It enables students to manage work, study and academic success in a program that caters for their individual needs.

How the FLC Works

The FLC encompasses pastoral care and customised education to meet the diverse educational and personal needs of students who aspire to complete their SACE. The emphasis is on individual development, recognising prior learning and enhancing skills for future participation in the community.

Educators work with students to develop an individual curriculum plan designed to meet the student’s specific needs and aspirations. Time allocated in the Centre is flexible and students’ schedules and the availability of space are considerations when constructing a timetable. Activities such as employment, TAFE studies, volunteer and community work, relate to formal learning wherever possible. The program works closely with local employers, education and training providers, government support agencies, volunteer organisations, service organisations, and local health providers, to support and enhance students’ programs of learning.

Why the FLC is Successful

This program has proved to be successful with students who show independence in their learning and have the motivation to complete their SACE through alternative methods. The flexible pathway provides the scope for students to pursue part-time work and attend TAFE. Students find the one-on-one and small group instruction offered by educators an effective strategy to develop their confidence and achieve success.
