Breydon Verryt–Reid wins Lions District Final Awards

03.04.19

The Lions Youth of the Year District Final was held in Murray Bridge last Saturday. Year 12 student Breydon Verryt-Reid was the winner of two awards, the Public Speaking Award and the Youth of the Year award. Breydon will now proceed to the State Final in Berri on Saturday 13 April. He is one of six finalists, with one winner proceeding to the National Final in Geelong.

In Murray Bridge, Breydon faced a strong field of six candidates from as far afield as Adelaide and Mildura. Breydon spoke about his experiences in the Air Force cadets for his five minute prepared speech. The students also had to give two short impromptu speeches, about career mentors and the world’s plastic problem.

The interview held prior to the speeches is worth 70% of the students’ result, and Breydon impressed the judges with his general knowledge, including his awareness of news and current affairs.

We wish Breydon the best of luck for the State Final, although we are already very proud of his achievements so far.
