Plenary Council feedback

As explained in last week’s newsletter, a Plenary Council will take place in Australia in 2020.

This presents an important opportunity for Catholic communities to be involved in shaping the Australian Church of the future.

A Plenary Council is the highest formal gathering of all local churches in a country, and the last one was held 80 years ago in Australia in 1937. It is being held “in order to give the Catholic community in Australia time to listen, dialogue and discern with one another and, guided by the Holy Spirit, about the future, the role and relevance of the Catholic Church in Australia”.

We would encourage you to give feedback via the survey link on the Plenary Council website http://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Shrove Tuesday

Next Tuesday 5 March is Shrove Tuesday. There will be pancakes available to purchase for $1. All money raised will go to Project Compassion which begins its appeal on Wednesday 6 March. Reception to Year 7 classes will visit the Pancake Kitchen (cooked by the Year 7 SAKG classes) during class time. Year 8-12 students will be able to purchase from stalls set up on the lawns near the Home Ec Centre during recess time. Gluten Free pancakes will be available. Please email Nada Brookes if you have any other dietary requirements.

Ash Wednesday

On Wednesday we will mark the start of the 40 days of the Liturgical season of Lent. All classes will attend liturgies where each person will be marked with ashes on his/her forehead as a sign of repentance. The ashes are an outward symbol of the inward change we will make during Lent. Ash Wednesday is a time when we stop and assess how we’re doing in our walk with God. Lent helps us identify spiritual areas in which we can grow and sinful areas that we need to avoid. To repent, put simply, means to turn away from sin and turn toward God.
