Year 8 Cohort take part in Orientation activities

20.02.19

Since Friday 8 February. The Year 8 Students have been participating in activities to build friendships and orientate themselves around the campus. The students have been busily immersing themselves in a range of activities in the first two weeks of school.

Various activities and classroom events have enabled the cohort to orientate themselves around the campus, settle into their new surrounds, help create friendships and learn about College systems and procedures.

One of the events designed to help create friendships and allow staff to get to know their students better was the excursion to the Valley lakes on Friday 8 February.

Students moved through a circuit of five specific high-energy practical activities based on fun, enjoyment and creating connections. A wonderful BBQ lunch complemented the day.

This week, the Year 8 cohort headed to Noorla Yo-Long for a range of challenging activities. With a multitude of adventure based activities, the 2 day experience gave the students exposure to self-learning in teamwork and self discovery, inviting each student to push themselves out of comfort zones, develop self-confidence to ‘ have a go’ at perceived challenges and most importantly work inclusively and supportively with others.

All students were able to gain valuable sociable time with their peers and pastoral care teachers. The format included high ropes courses, a hearty BBQ lunch, ground based obstacles and team initiative tasks to stimulate problem solving and team dynamics.

Well done to all students and staff on their enthusiasm and commitment over the last two weeks.
