8/9 & 10 Boys and Girls Basketball – State Final

21.11.18

During Week 5 of Term 4, our 8/9 & 10 boys’ and girls’ Basketball teams travelled to Adelaide to compete in the state championship round. The week was started off with our youngest Titans taking the court on the Wednesday.

Our 8/9 boys and girl’s teams won their way through to Adelaide with an undefeated record and looked poised to make a strong push to the final. The 8/9 boys put forward an outstanding effort with an undersized group, making their way through to the Grand Final where they would be matched up against longtime rivals, Cabra College. The boys put their heart on their sleeve and displayed outstanding resilience but went down by 1 point, making them the state runner’s up.

The 8/9 girls had a very similar path to the Grand Final except they lost one minor round game to the team they eventually match up against in the Grand Final.

In the Grand Final, the Tenison girls came up against Marymount/Sacred Heart and the young Titans showed just how dominant they were, winning the game by 17 points and securing their 7th state championship in a row. Best players for the boys were Harry McInnes, Oscar Adams, Nick Joy and Ollie McInnes and for the Girls, Alyssa Duncan, Kayleigh Taylor and Lucy Denton were the standouts.

After a very successful day of competition it was now the Year 10 boys and girls turn to follow up on the efforts of the 8/9 teams the day before. The Year 10 boys were put into a tough position early in the day with two starters being struck down by sickness. This then allowed the less experienced players in the squad to gain valuable playing time and learn from their opposition. It was an opportunity to learn and grow for the future but unfortunately the boys weren’t able to make it through to the Grand Final. The girls were however able to continue their dominant ways, advancing through to the Grand Final with an undefeated record. There they would come up against Sacred Heart College where they were able to win by 11 points and come away with our 5th state championship in a row in that age group.
