5 HPSP students to contest Ultimate Fiji Cup 2018

07.11.18

Five HPSP students from our College will be competing in the Ultimate Fiji Cup from Sunday 4 December to Friday 9 December. This year the annual tournament will feature a team from Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.

Year 11 student, Harry Wilson has been selected in the under 17 Regional State team. This is the second time he will play in the Cup and is more excited to play in it this year because he is one of the more experienced players in the team. Harry says “We have a very good team going and I hope that this year we can make the final and hopefully win the cup.”

Letitia Izzo in Year 10 is excited and says this is the biggest Soccer tournament she has ever attended. “I think it will be a wonderful experience for building skills, making friends, and learning new things, not only on the pitch but off it. I am looking forward to going to an international tournament and playing in a different Country as well as representing my State. From what I have heard from my other team mates that have previously attended I think it will be a trip to remember.”

Year 11 student Tyler Michielan, has also been selected to play in Fiji for the second time. “This will be my second time going away to Fiji as I represented SA last year in the under 16 team. The weather is very hot and lots of training is required to stay fit and healthy. Last year we came 3rd hopefully this year we can do one better and make the grand final.” states Tyler.

Nadia Metzger a Year 11 student at the College is looking forward to the trainings building up to it, because she really wants to improve her decision making skills and become a better centre defender (number 3) as well as learning how to play midfield. "Then, once we’re in Fiji I want to be able to apply those skills and be a player other people can rely on. This year, I’m really pushing to be the captain of the team and I have been working really hard to get it because again, I want my teammates to be able to rely on me, and I want to try and push myself out of my comfort zone."

Year 10 student Connor Prior is competing in the under 15 age group, but will be playing against under 16 teams. He is looking forward to competing at a high level for South Australia and representing his state in a sport that he loves to play. He says “I am also looking forward to playing the best I can and seeing what level the Fiji team are at.”

We wish all these HPSP students all the very best in Fiji!
