International Day Of Peace

12.09.18

The International Day of Peace is a world-wide event observed on the 21 September each year. It was established by the United Nations in 1981 and the day has been declared as a day that is devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples."

Each year the day is given a theme and this year’s theme is "THE RIGHT TO PEACE”, raising awareness that it has been 70 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written. This Declaration is a milestone document in the history of human rights and was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948 as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.

With this theme in mind there will be a walk to school on Friday 21 September from the Railway Lands to school organised by the Senior School Social Justice Group. We will walk from the Rotunda at the Railway Lands along the railway track to White Avenue before turning towards school and walking into school as a group. If you wish to be involved please meet at the Rotunda in the Railway Lands at 7:50am to leave at 8:00am.
