CIM Team News Term 3 Week 7:

Season of Creation

The Season of Creation is an annual celebration of prayer and action to protect creation. The season began on September 1, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and runs through until October 4, the Feast of St. Francis, who is the patron saint of ecology in many traditions. The theme of this year’s celebration is “walking together.”

As we begin the 2nd week of the Season of Creation we reflect on the worsening environmental crisis facing our world. We are urgently called to witness to our faith by taking bold action to preserve the gift we share. As the psalmist sings, “The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1-2). During the Season of Creation, we ask ourselves: Do our actions honour the Lord as Creator? Are there ways to deepen our faith by protecting “the least of these,” who are most vulnerable to the consequences of environmental degradation?

We are invited to join together on a journey of faith that challenges and rewards us with fresh perspective and deeper bonds of love. United in our sincere wish to protect creation and all those who share it, we join hands across denominations as sisters and brothers in Christ. During this season, we walk together towards greater stewardship of our place in creation.

Pope Francis’ urgent call in “Laudato Si’, calls on us to pledge to: 1) Pray for and with creation; 2) Live more simply; and 3) Advocate to protect our common home.”

Vinnies Fashion Parade:

During lunchtime last Wednesday a Fashion Parade was held with clothes from our local Crouch Street store. The student models from across the College were dressed head to toe in Vinnies fashions with representatives from the local St Vincent DePaul conference joining in the fun along with a huge crowd. The culmination of the Fashion Parade was a wedding with the College captains as the bride and groom accompanied by a stunning wedding party. We hope that the sales at Vinnies will increase in the next few weeks with money raised being used to support local people in need.

Thanks to the Middle School Social Justice group and the whole of Class 8C under the leadership of Ms Chris Lloyd for organising this awareness raising event as well as the sausage sizzle and cake stall that took place on the day, raising funds for Vinnies.
