Book Week 2018 - Find your Treasure

28.08.18

The annual Book Week Parade based around this year’s theme “Find your own Treasure” was a spectacular event enjoyed by around 700 Early Learning to Year 12 students as well as staff, parents, carers and special friends. We were entertained by “The Grand High Witch”, King Neptune and Shark boy, an Egyptian Princess, Captain Kirk and the crew of the Star Trek Enterprise to ensure the Parade was entertaining and a hit for all. Once again our students and staff exceeded themselves with some amazing costumes, from the elaborate to the very simple they were all fantastic. Everyone enjoyed participating in or watching the parade which really allowed our students to shine and celebrate literacy and reading.

This year it was wonderful to welcome our Year 12 students to revisit Book Week and pair up with their Buddies from the Reception classes and I think both year levels enjoyed it equally.  It was a great initiative on the Year 12’s behalf and we thank them for their contribution and would love it to become an annual tradition.

Following Recess, Reception - Year 5 students enjoyed swapping classes to explore a variety of shortlisted books and the activities designed around them. This was a change from past years where this has been run across the week and I have heard that this year’s model was a huge success.

The day culminated in the Junior School Assembly where the winners of the Library Book Week Competition were announced.  We had so many amazing entries that library staff had a huge task to pick the winners of each category.  Everyone’s entries were amazing and we appreciate the creativity, effort and care that went into making them.

We look forward to next year’s Book Week and the fun that will go with it!
