Greatest Wax Event This Friday

23.08.18

Tenison Woods College Year 12 Students have demonstrated initiative to helping the local community, by organising a fundraiser for this term at the College. This new event named ‘The Greatest Wax - Blokes Wax for Bowel Cancer’ is dedicated to raising awareness and money to help to reduce the high mortality rate caused by Bowel Cancer.

On the morning of Friday 31 August, at 9:00am, Students will host members from the College and wider community, in the Barrie Holmes Stadium at the College. The proceeds raised will go towards medical equipment in the Mount Gambier Hospital to aid in local Bowel Cancer treatment.

This event follows on from the College’s Father’s Day Breakfast, which celebrates fathers and grandfathers in our College Community, reminding us at this time just how precious the males in our lives are to us.

The Students already have some iconic local Males involved, including Dr Tim McCullough, Dr Barney McCusker, Dr Matthias Wichmann, Mr Peter Gazzard, Male Tenison Woods College Captain Daniel Ker, and plenty of teachers already nominated to take part. Local Surgeon Dr Tim McCullough comments: “Normally I am the one inflicting the pain, but this is such a crucial cause, I am willing to submit!” Local Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr Barney McCusker adds: “We all need to do whatever it takes to promote this worthy cause.”

Participants will include and are not limited to: Male teachers, Year 12 College Males, Fathers, Uncles, Brothers, Cousins, Grandfathers and Male figures amongst our community. Nominations are $25 for an individual, and $50 for a business nomination.

The students are asking members of the community to consider nominating a Male from their workplace, to have a part of their leg waxed, with the minimum donation of $50 to go directly to the equipment needed at the Mount Gambier Hospital.

Dr. Matthias Wichmann, another local Surgeon added “Bowel Cancer is an increasing issue in our society, so I am very happy to help raise awareness of the need for early testing.”

“I am very willing to be a part of the promotion” says Peter Gazzard, local businessman.

Year 12 College Captain Evangelia Wichmann comments “This is such a worthy cause, and with Male Bowel Cancer a leading cause of death amongst males, the Year 12 cohort felt it would be a great idea to raise the awareness about this illness and encourage males to purchase a Bowel Screening Kit and get themselves checked. The money donated toward the purchase of equipment will hopefully also help to save lives in the local region.”

If you would like to be a part of this event, please contact Director of Wellbeing, Jennie Sanderson at Tenison Woods College 87255 455 or email: sandj@tenison.catholic.edu.au to nominate.
