Beyond the Role - Penny Sharp

22.08.18

My role at Tenison Woods College is in Senior Secondary where I teach English in Years 10 to 12. I also teach Research Project and Religion.

Outside of work I LOVE to run, walk or hike in nature! These days, I am mainly a recreational fitness enthusiast, but have participated in 2 marathons (42.2km), a few half marathons (21.1km) and a half ironman triathlon which includes a 2km ocean swim, 90 km bicycle ride and 21.1 km run one after the other. I am an occasional “yogi” – or yoga enthusiast – and when the mood suits, I can be found doing the Warrior 2 pose in front of the TV…!

Before I completed my teaching degree, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance performance and a 3-year teaching certificate with the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Prior to my first teaching appointment, I was a freelance dancer with the State Opera of South Australia and also ran a small ballet school in Adelaide.

I am a useless - but passionate - gardener of all things edible. I am also a bit of a foodie; cooking real wholefood is my specialty. (Trying to convince my husband sugar is poison is my destiny!)

Beyond my role as a teacher, I dream of the day when I can stop and read an entire novel from cover to cover without anything else distracting me! One of the biggest distractions I have outside of teaching is keeping my fur kid Nala the kelpie entertained! She is beautiful but rather high maintenance…!

I feel very blessed to be living the life I have been given. I am doing what I love and love what I do.
