Whole School Mass
Firstly, what a beautiful mass we celebrated on Wednesday August 15 to acknowledge the Feast of the Assumption, commemorating the significance of Mary in the Catholic Church. On this Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Catholics give thanks and praise for the holy and blessed life of Mary the Mother of Jesus. We celebrate how God has honoured her and welcomed her into heaven. and wasn't it a wonderful celebration of our community gathered around the Christian message of hope and anticipation of more beyond this life.

Parents, carers and friends are invited to view the parade, starting at 9:00am this Friday in the Barrie Holmes Stadium.

Vinnies Fashion Parade

On Wednesday August 29 at lunch time, students from 8C are presenting a Vinnies Fashion Parade along with a cake stall and sausage sizzle. The aim of the Parade is to showcase the wonderful range of clothing always available for purchase from the Vinnies shops.

The Parade is free for students to attend, but the money raised from the sale of the cakes and sausages is for the Vinnies Winter Appeal, providing warm clothes and bedding for people in need in our region.

If you would like to get involved by donating food to be sold at the stall, please see the story in this newsletter for further details.

STEMtember

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter the College is preparing for a celebration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) teaching and learning at Tenison Woods College.

Whilst the College has a proud history of achievement in this area, a focus on this area in September helps us appreciate our contemporary pedagogical approach to 21st century learning design, which accentuates multi-discipline and integrated problem-based learning, innovative and authentic curriculum, and incorporates real world applications through industry partnerships.

There will be a range of initiatives for the whole school community, including competitions, demonstrations, challenging experiences and learning inquiries for students, staff and parents.

Next week we will share with you the first week – Week 1 of STEMtember Calendar of events to share with your families. We invite parents to encourage their children to participate in the wide range learning inquiries and initiatives. We are excited about STEMtember and gearing up for a wonderful month of information, inquiry and challenge.

Staff Formation Day – 7 September
Our Staff Formation Day will be held in Mount Gambier on Friday 7 September 2018. The facilitator for the day is Rev Dr Michael Trainor, a priest in the Archdiocese of Adelaide and lecturer at the Australian Catholic University. Dr Trainor will present on what it means to be a Catholic educator and give time for reflection on the importance of our roles in Catholic schools.

All three Catholic schools in the region will participate in this day, consequently an important part of the day is reconnecting with or meeting others who share the same mission for education.
