Inaugural 3 on 3 Basketball a Hit

22.08.18

Students from year’s eight and nine recently took part in Tenison Woods College’s inaugural 3 on 3 Basketball tournament.

The competition ran through Week 4 during lunchtime in the Barrie Holmes Stadium and involved almost 30 boys and girls in a round-robin tournament. The games were a popular spectacle, with many students from all grades coming to the College gym to watch and enjoy the competition.

The final was played out in front of over 100 student-spectators with the top two teams from the round-robin going head-to-head to decide the ultimate champion. Before the final, a curtain-raiser match between staff and the third-place students took place, with the students winning a nail-biter: 8-7.

The final saw the second-place team, with Harry McInnes (c), Alex Stafford and Oscar Hunt, taking on the top team with Lucy Denton (c), Kayleigh Taylor, Tara Bryant and Hannah Nitschke (sub.). The girls took out an early lead and presented strong defensive pressure on the boys. It took nearly 5 minutes for McInnes’ team to get on the board and with that the challenge to get back into the game was too much. The girls took out a convincing win and are the Year 8/9 Champions!

Plans are in place for a Senior School 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Week 8 of this term.
