The Watoto Choir

31.07.18

Thanks to everyone who supported the visit of the Watoto Choir last week. The visit was a huge success with the children lovingly and joyfully telling of the love of God through story, dance and song. The Watoto Choir is a group of African based children that has been travelling the world since 1994. The Watoto choir is a unique ‘reaching out’ tool that addresses the issues of global experience and presents Watoto’s vision and mission by sharing personal stories through their performance.

A huge thanks to the generous members of our community who hosted groups, school staff, families and parishioners who provided and prepared food, cleaned up meals, attendees and sponsorship. Special thanks must be extended to Fr Dean for his hospitality, Bradley Marcus for his technical leadership and also to the Quality Inn Presidential for providing accomodation for the coordinator and the bus drivers.

The Watoto Group Coordinator counted 450 people in St Paul’s Church which was a tremendous turnout. The concert was a great ecumenical celebration and the faith, hope and joy displayed by the choir was inspiring. There was also positive support from the local Congolese community with some even sharing stories of having been helped by the Watoto Church while in Ugandan Refugee camps. It was moving to hear these stories from some of our Tenison Woods College and St Paul’s parish communities. The visit was short but had a huge impact on those who attended the concert and met the group from the Watoto Church community.
