Farewell to Exchange Student Alix Lescure

27.06.18

As we prepare to farewell Year 12 Student Alix Lescure, she shares with us her experiences of her time here at Tenison Woods College, and we wish Alix all the best for her future. Alix is a Rotary Exchange Student hosted by the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West.

Alix comments:

I come from Bordeaux in France and I am a 12-month exchange here in Australia. During the last 12 months I have been attending school at Tenison Woods College. Attending classes at a new school, in a new country and with a different language was not supposed to be the ‘easy’ part of my exchange, but I have always felt welcome and well received, by both students and teachers alike. I’ve met some incredible people who became such good friends during my time here. I was also pleased to be a part of groups and activities all the way through my exchange, such as:

  • Soccer with the Tenison Woods College Titans
  • Charity Events: such as Melanoma March and Charity Day
  • Charity Ball and many more

I arrived here in August 2017, completing the last semester of Year 11 and the first semester of Year 12. I have been able to choose some subjects that I really enjoyed such as:

  • Outdoor Education
  • Physical Education
  • History
  • Research Project
  • Society and Culture

Being a part of these classes helped me to improve my English extensively.

I feel incredibly grateful for this amazing opportunity that the Rotary Club has given me. I had an incredible year and have made memories that will last forever. Thanks to this experience, I have gone out of my ‘comfort zone’ and learnt a new culture, another way of living, I’ve grown up a lot, met so many incredible people, done a lot of things and have explored Australia. I will go back to France as a new person and will definitely be returning to Australia in the near future.

I encourage all young people to give travelling a go and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity.
