Timor-Leste Immersion trip

This Sunday, 12 students and two teachers participating in the 2018 Timor-Leste Immersion trip will leave Mount Gambier and head to Adelaide, where they will fly out of on Monday morning. We wish the group a safe trip and pray that they will experience God in the people, places and experiences they encounter. We thank the group for the important work they will do in impoverished Timor-Leste communities and we thank the Tenison Woods College Community and Mount Gambier Catholic Parish for their generosity in providing almost $10,000 for the group to take and distribute as well as suitcases full of stationery packs, clothing, recorders and sporting wear. We look forward to them sharing their experiences on their return.

Year 11 Retreat

Next week, the Year 11 students and their teachers will journey to Halls Gap for the annual Year 11 Retreat. This is an opportunity for them to retreat from school, work and home life and spend time exploring who they are as a person, how they relate to others and creation and where God is in their life. On arrival in Halls Gap, the group will participate in a Welcome to Gariwerd Country Ceremony to hear the story of the area we call the Grampians. The Retreat experiences are central to who we are as a Catholic school and as such are a compulsory part of a student’s schooling.

Sacrament Children Congratulations

Congratulations to the 23 children who celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion last weekend. Both masses were beautiful child-centred occasions. The children would like to thank their families and friends for their support and the parishioners for their well wishes and ongoing prayers.

Year 8 Retreat

Last week, the Year 8 students participated in their annual retreat. The retreat was held on World Refugee Day and the theme this year was ‘empathy’. The students participated in a range of activities connected to this theme and led by staff. Activities included dance, art, music, prayer, physical activity, theme work and reflection. Each of these topics helped students consider what it means to be empathetic. A great day was had by all.
