Charity Ball

30.05.18

On Friday 25 May, the 2018 Charity Ball was held at the Main Corner complex. The event was attended by students in Year 11 and 12, who came together for a fantastic night of fun and dancing to support the Timor-Leste immersion trip. The ladies shone in their beautiful gowns and evening wear and the gentleman didn’t disappoint either. Sarah Williams was judged best dressed in a lovely Zimmerman frock while Josh DeDonatis dazzled in a red velvet jacket to win best dressed male. Other awards were presented to Year 12 students on the night to the amusement of the crowd.

This event certainly embraces the College’s ‘hands up, help out’ theme for 2018 and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people and organisations who supported the event. Firstly, a big shout out to the Mount Gambier City Council for hosting the event. Many thanks also to the following suppliers:

  • Mount Gambier Garden Centre for providing beautiful palm trees and greenery, which really added to the elegance of the evening
  • The amazingly talented Luke Chapman and Flora Carbo from the James Morrison Academy for volunteering their time to play Gatsby inspired music at the beginning of the night
  • Ben Hood for donating the 1920s style microphone
  • The Sugarloaf Café for donating their time in the preparation of a delicious supper
  • Donut King for discounting the price on the donuts
  • Perfect Pix Photo Booth for donating a percentage of their profits to the immersion
  • DJ Scotty Ags who discounted his services and kept the dance floor pumping all night
  • Tension Woods College staff who gave up their Friday night
  • The final thanks goes to our immensely talented PR and Events team for their vision and hard work in organising the event with the support of the Charity Ball committee. It is your efforts that have seen us raise over $5,000 for the people of Timor-Leste.

It is a great privilege and honour to donate the money raised from the Charity Ball and other fundraising events to the communities we visit in Timor-Leste. As Nelson Mandela said “there is no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy (and in our case money) to help others without expecting anything in return.”

If you would like to support the immersion, we are still looking at collecting recorders and stationery items and these can be delivered to the Front Office, Chris Lloyd, Becky Higgins or Bernadette Fisher. The participants will also receive a blessing at the Sunday Mass on 17 June and will be selling soup and raffle tickets at both masses on this weekend.

We look forward to sharing our adventures and experiences on our return.
