Celebrating Award Winners at This Weeks’ Assembly

23.05.18

On Tuesday 22 May, the College community gathered in the Barrie Holmes Stadium for the Term 2 Whole School Assembly. Students enjoyed entertainment from the Big Band, and listened to many updates from departments across the College. Major Awards were presented including the Barrie Holmes Memorial Scholarship, the District Council of Grant Academic Scholarship and the Chinese Star Writing Competition.

The District Council of Grant Academic Scholarship is an annual award presented to a senior Tenison Woods College student to assist them in furthering their studies.  The recipient of the $500 award must live in the District Council of Grant area, demonstrate academic achievement and commitment, have an exemplary attendance record, adhere to the College’s values and have a commitment to College and extra-curricular activities. The finalist is selected by a College panel.

The Barrie Holmes Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an applicant that shows not only outstanding basketball skills but a dedication to the sport through their training, perseverance, passion and understanding the importance of being part of a team.

The Chinese Star Writing Competition has been running since 2011 and has received strong support from Chinese language students from around Australia, and is supported by the college each year. The competition requires students to write an essay of at least 500 characters on a set theme.

We congratulate the following students:

Lily Bannister (Year 11) – Winner of the District Council of Grant Academic Scholarship
Malok Makoi (Year 12) - Winner of the Barrie Holmes Memorial Scholarship
