School Bus Access for Students in Rural Schools

28.02.18

As we move towards a State Election, parents are encouraged to consider how each political party is promising to support our Catholic schools. Currently, in some rural areas in South Australia, Government school students can access a public bus service but students in Catholic schools in rural areas may be expected to find their own way to school – even if the bus drives right past their home and their school.

South Australia is the only state where the Minister for Education is responsible for the transportation of students to and from school. In other states, it is the responsibility of the Minister for Transport. The aspiration is for this to happen in South Australia too. Bus services should be based on need, not school sector. School buses should be accessible to all students.

Learn more by watching this video or visiting the CESA website here.

PLEASE NOTE: There are families within our community who have been affected by inaccessibility to DECD school buses.

Recently the Minister for Education conducted a review on School bus services for rural school students. If your child was denied access to a DECD bus, please contact Tenison Woods College immediately to complete a questionnaire which will be passed on to Dr Neil McGoran, Director, Catholic Education South Australia.

For further queries or information, please contact the Front Office on 08 8725 5455.
