Lent 2018

Remember that through Lent we’re asking for your help to raise money through Project Compassion. By doing so, your donation can help communities all around the world. In Cambodia the ‘Deaf Development Program’, supported by Caritas Australia is helping the deaf and those with hearing problems enjoy a normal life. They offer support to those in need and assist them in finding jobs to support themselves and their family.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and help deaf youth in Cambodia to build a just future, and live in communities that uphold everyone’s dignity.

A just future starts with your support! You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, by visiting the CARITAS website or by phoning 1800 024 413. Project Compassion boxes have been sent home with the youngest member of each family and are to be returned by Easter to the Church or school office. Further boxes are available at Tenison Woods College if needed.

Visit from Caritas

This week we were visited by Suzy Penberthy from Caritas Australia. Suzy works as the Justice Educator for South Australia. Students from several classes in the Junior and Middle School heard Suzy speak about the work of Caritas and the difference each of us can make in the world to bring about equity and justice. A highlight of the visit was the half-day workshop for students involved in the Middle School Council or the Middle School Social Justice group. This group workshopped various issues of social justice and spent a significant time planning how they can address these issues locally and globally in a way that helps create sustainable change. They showed incredible empathy and creativity in their thinking and we look forward to watching some of their ideas evolve through Lent and the remainder of the year.
