Cole plays his role for the Queens Baton Relay

21.02.18

Tenison Woods College’s year 10 Wellbeing & PLP Coordinator David Cole was one of five South East locals in Ararat last week taking part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay.

In March last year, David’s wife Eliza nominated him for the relay. After progressing through the QBR nomination process, he was notified of his selection late last year. Approximately 3800 people will carry the Queen’s Baton across Australia as the relay counts down to the start of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in April.

David was joined by four other South East representatives: Dean Berry, Amechai Bawden, Alexander Guenther & Jamie McInerney. One of the highlights from the relay for David was meeting five-time Olympian and silver medal cyclist, Shane Kelly.

The baton has been passed between thousands of people for 288 days across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

The Queen’s Baton arrives on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April, where the Prince of Wales will remove the Queen’s message from the baton and read it aloud to declare the games open.
