Our talented writers - Michael Panckridge Writing Competition

06.12.17

The Year 4- 8 students who won the Michael Panckridge Writing Competition were all very excited this week to receive personalised feedback from him regarding their stories. Michael was very impressed with their efforts and full of encouragement for students to continue writing. Below are some extracts from the feedback they received.

Alexa Balog:
“This is a really captivating story with some beautiful imagery and scene setting.. This idea is so strong that I’d actually love LOVE to write this out myself!! If that happens when I read a student’s piece of writing then I know it’s a fantastic idea… and this is a fantastic idea.“

Paige Exelby:
“This is such a powerful story because of its beautiful message. So good. I don’t know if you’re a good illustrator or if you know someone who is, but seriously, this could be an amazing picture book for younger kids because the message is simply brilliant.”

Tyler Collins:
“Loved this – the illustrations were as good as the story. This author has a future as a graphic novelist for sure.. This works well as a little series too – kids will definitely want to read the next instalment.“

Harry McInnes:
“A great opening and well told. Often these plots get too complicated, but this is all good. Some lovely phrasing and wording too. If you’re writing this quality spy material at your age… wow… you’ve got a future as a crime / spy novelist…”

Aden Clarke:
“Love it. I also really like the message of a kid being able to do amazing stuff like inventing the hoverboard. Amazing ending too – with a really great twist; actually, probably a couple of twists. This is a really good story with heaps of potential. Time travel isn’t the easiest thing to write about but this is really strong.“

Piper de Nys:
“You are a true story writer as you’ve crafted a long story that has a number of problems, along with a major problem a good conclusion or resolution too. I like the quirky style of your writing. This is so important as it makes it fun to read.”

Gabe Jones:
“I really enjoyed the action sequences in this story. I also like the shift of the character from the dark side to the good. Your paragraphing is really good and this makes the story easy to read.”

Well done to all of these students. We are hoping to have Michael work with our students again in 2018 as it was so successful.
