End Poverty in our Community

07.06.17

As part of the Year 12 Integrated Learning in Religion, students were required to select a Sustainable Development Goal to research and either raise awareness in the local community or raise funds/collect donations for charitable organisations. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were developed by the United Nations in 2015 at the conclusion of the 8 Millennium Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2030.

Raising awareness of homelessness in our community targets Sustainable Development Goal #1: No Poverty.

When the last global homelessness survey was conducted back in 2005 it was estimated 100 million people where homeless around the world. Right now in Australia there are currently 105,237 homeless people (56% of males and 44% of females). If you are thinking of helping the homeless community, it is very simple. Go to your local Vinnies, help out or donate your old clothes that you and your family don’t wear anymore.

For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society and people like you. How can you take action in the local community to contribute to a sustainable future and to create an equitable world for those less fortunate than us?
