On Wednesday 22 November, students involved in the Tenison Woods College Big Band were privileged to visit the James Morrison Academy of Music, a campus of the University of South Australia.
Students were given a tour by Charlotte Marsh, an old scholar of the college, which showcased the various rehearsal, practice and study rooms available to the students at the University.
Students concluded their tour by sitting in on a rehearsal. The first rehearsal involved all students, where they begin rehearsals by singing as a group. This improves their aural ability, or how they can hear what they are playing, as well as the others around them. The second part of the rehearsal involved the students splitting into their band groups. Two pieces were performed as a final rehearsal for their upcoming end of semester concert, which concludes their academic year.
All Big Band students thoroughly enjoyed the excursion, and some students are now quite interested in studying at JMA in the future.
