The year 10 media studies class participated in a filmmaking workshop run by actor and director Steve Bastoni, film maker Brendon Young, and featured Louise Adams (RUOK ambassador/music artist). The full day Peninsula Film Festival workshop in collaboration with R U OK, taught student the basics of structuring, planning and shooting their own short films based on the power of conversation, aiming to promote awareness and understanding surrounding mental illness.

Our writer, (Zari Stevens) created the storyline and script for our movie to be based around. Keeping within the given theme of R U OK, our synopsis entailed a new girl (Mollie Hunt) who is isolated and suicidal. Two friends (Kyle Jones and Chloe Futcher) attempt to make friends with the new girl after they bumped into her at the lockers. When they approach her they see that she needs help, they reach out to her and ask her: "R U OK".

We Filmed the day after the workshop. It was a new experience for each member of the group to be placed in the position of actors, directors and cameramen. Our groups director (Lexie Saxon) and the camera man (Mason Galwey) Worked together to plan out how they would approach the scenes to create the desired outcome and to produce a short film that fitted the criteria of R U OK.

It was our aim to emulate the reality behind mental illness through a relatable situation that would be a powerful message to the viewers.
