Apprenticeships and Traineeships – a Few Q&A’s

16.01.19

What is an Apprenticeship or Traineeship?

Combining training with paid employment, apprenticeships and traineeships offer recognised qualifications in over 500 occupations.

What is the difference between the two?

Apprenticeships generally last three to four years and cover traditional trades. Traineeships cover a wider range of occupations, however the training is usually between one and two years.

How can a Group Training Organisation help me?

GTOs offer advice and assistance to find the right apprenticeship or traineeship for you. They employ apprentices and trainees and then place them with host businesses for varying periods of time until the apprenticeship or traineeship has been completed. They organise your training and look after your wages, workers compensation and other employee benefits. Most importantly, they monitor your progress and offer support along the way.

Where are the best career opportunities?

GTOs will know what different industries and employers are offering. They can help with career and lifestyle opportunities that suit you and provide advice on how to achieve your goals. They have offices in metropolitan and regional areas.

What happens once I have completed an apprenticeship or traineeship?

You may be offered ongoing employment or you may choose to seek other employment or further your education through university studies.

Where can I find more information?

Go to www.apprenticetrainee.com.au then select ‘Find a Group Training Organisation’ and talk directly to them.
