A Focus on Non-Traditional Roles

16.01.19

Did you know……. six out of ten people still work in industries dominated by one sex?

In 2019, we will focus on having students be aware of, and ideally, explore, non-traditional career paths.

The term Non-traditional Careers refers to jobs that have been traditionally filled by one gender. They are typically occupations for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25% of the individuals employed. In addition to opening up a broader range of career paths for both male and female students, increased gender diversity across all industries and careers results in:

  • Increased Creativity and Innovation
  • Better Consumer Understanding
  • Richer Brainstorming
  • Better Decision Making
  • Plugging the talent gap
  • Improved team performance

Year 10 students will kick off their PLP program with a discussion panel featuring a number of locals who have commenced work in a non-traditional area. This is intended to prompt thinking ‘outside of the box’ in relation to career options.

During National Careers Week in May (details to come), we will also be holding an information session for Years 8-12 students to attend which will highlight careers in non-traditional areas.
