Junior School Community R - 6

Learning for Life

Our Junior School provides an engaging learning environment for students from Reception to Year 6, where every learner has an individual pathway, so that every learner is encouraged to ‘let their light shine’ in their own individual way.

We aim to have a learning environment where students feel secure and supported to achieve their best. The Junior School has its own dedicated learning and play areas with the Reception building and the new MacKillop Junior School. Students also have access to our shared College facilities, including the Library, Reception - Year 9 Canteen and the Barrie Holmes Stadium.

Our Junior School offers a supportive environment with rich learning experiences in Literacy and Numeracy and other curriculum offerings. Through differentiated learning we cater for the needs of students, who are supported not only by teaching staff, but dedicated Pathways and Wellbeing Coordinators.

The Junior School offers Italian, an extensive Arts program, Music and Physical Education that is scheduled in every week. Junior School students also experience the dynamic and engaging Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program at planned times throughout the year.

Tenison Woods College places a strong commitment to pastoral care, focusing on developing the whole person as well as academically extending all learners, and building relationships with families and the school community. These relationships are also built through a deliberate wellbeing program and a variety of wellbeing initiatives that value student agency, leadership opportunities for students and proactive opportunities such as lunchtime clubs.

MacKillop Community Centre - Reception

The College opened its doors to the Reception Building, The MacKillop Community Centre, at the commencement of 2021. Students have been thriving in this new learning environment, which was custom designed to accentuate a Reggio Emilia inspired pedagogy and caters directly to the needs of Reception students as they begin their educational journey.

The MacKillop Community Centre features open classroom studios with breakout and meeting rooms, a large creative maker studio, two unique learning pods, as well as a spacious sensory room. At the heart of the building; a central piazza area allows collaboration between all classes at various times throughout the day. The exterior of this wonderful centre showcases an impressive contemporary nature playground. The building is state-of-the art in both its design and function.
