Catholic Ethos

At Tenison Woods College we live a faith life modelled on Jesus and our Founders: Fr Julian Tenison Woods, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, St Marcellin Champagnat and the Venerable Catherine McAuley. The complementary nature of the Religious life of the school and the learning and teaching of Religious Education, reflects a desire to educate students to know and respect the richness of our Catholic tradition and make connections between the curriculum, a faith life and a life of service to others.

At the centre of this faith is the experience of God who is love, and opportunities are provided to experience this through prayer, liturgy, curriculum, retreats, ecological conversion and social justice activities. Through these activities, students are invited into a personal relationship with Jesus and encouraged to make an active commitment to our local and global community.

The whole school community celebrates mass once a term in addition to each year level celebrating weekly combined prayer and a year level mass once a term. Prayer is conducted each day in homegroups. Each student from Year 7-12 is expected to participate in an annual retreat. Optional experiences of retreats, masses and other opportunities for engagement with their faith are also offered throughout the year.
