Catholic Education South Australia

In 2014 I began my journey at Tenison Woods College as a Year 5 student. Previously attending a very small school, I can remember being in awe of everything about the college. From the amazing staff and students, to the endless resources and opportunities, I knew this was where I wanted to be and where I wanted to make a difference.

Looking back at my journey so far at Tenison Woods College, I realise the college community and teachers are part of the reason I am who I am today. Something else that has shaped the person I am today is a personal challenge that I have faced since the age of 12, type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes has taught me many things, particularly optimism which will likely be useful during my time as college captain.

As a student, I can honestly say I enjoy school as I love the constant challenge of personal growth. I am a strong believer in living outside your comfort zone. I look confidently towards my role as college captain for many reasons, one including the personal growth that will come from the amazing opportunity.

As a college captain, my major goal for the year is to make school as engaging for students as possible. I am extremely proud to wear my uniform and to be a member of the college community which leads me to be eager to attend school each day. I would love for all students of Tenison Woods College to experience this sense of pride and excitement to come to school. As for my Year 12 peers, I hope to make it an incredible year, that we will remember as our best year of senior school.

It is common knowledge that 2020 was an unpredictable and crazy year, to say the least. However, I believe the benefits to this include the strengthening of our resilience and the way we all cope with challenging situations. The support felt by each student from teachers and peers during the tough parts of 2020 is something that I hope is carried over into 2021.

I am passionate about improving every student’s journey at the college and feel honoured to be a College Captain this year. I am hopeful that 2021 will bring memorable experiences and happiness.
