Students gain insight to waste collection at Cave Gardens

13.03.19

On Wednesday 13 March, Year 4 students walked along the railway track to the Cave Gardens to see the council emptying Sid’s lid. Sid’s lid is a “gross” pollutant trap that collects the rubbish and leaves from the storm water system in the city centre of Mount Gambier.

As a part of our Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum this term the Year 4 students focus is on sustainability and waste management. Students learnt about how Sid’s lid is a large filter that traps any waste and leaves from entering the aquifer system at the Cave Gardens stopping any pollution entering the water ways. The students enjoyed the excursion and now have a further awareness about where their rubbish could end up if it is dropped on the ground.
