University Application Processes

27.07.18

Applications for undergraduate university courses typically open in early August each year. Applications are made via the relevant State Tertiary Admission Centre (see the list below).

The purpose of each State’s Admission Centre is to:

  • Publish information about courses and application procedures
  • Process undergraduate, postgraduate and TAFE (where applicable) applications
  • Acknowledge each application by email
  • Assess applicant’s qualifications according to the rules set by the institutions
  • Rank eligible applicants for each course preference
  • Email offers to applicants selected by its member institutions
  • Answer queries about the status and outcome of applications

Admission Centres do not:

  • Make the rules for assessing applications
  • Decide how many offers should be made for each course
  • Provide career counselling
  • Process applications for their non-member institutions

Before you apply:

  • Research -  Explore courses here, or via any of the Tertiary Admission Centre websites below, visit institutions (Open Days), talk to course counsellors.
  • Understand – the selection rules and application process for each course you are interested in.
  • Be prepared – have your SACE candidate number to hand.
  • Be contactable – use a non-school email address that is accessed/checked regularly.
  • Be aware – eg deadlines, such as early closing courses.
