We Ride As One for Leukaemia

As I welcome all families back to start the second term for 2017, we especially welcome new families to our community, hoping that they will enjoy being a part of our learning family.

The term has commenced smoothly and students have once again settled into the routines that were established in Term 1. We look forward with fresh energy to the learning experiences to be encountered during the term.

Term 2 is a joyous time in the Church Calendar and we will be celebrating First Holy Communion and Confirmation on the weekend of 27 and 28 May.

24 tired but exhilarated students, teachers and parents returned on Friday 28 April from the inaugural Tenison Woods College 14-day Study Tour of Japan.

During the second week of the school holidays, two coaches from the Celtic International Football Academy in Glasgow visited the region as guests of the High Performance Soccer Program. While in the region, the coaches visited the college and conducted a futsal clinic for students in the High Performance Program.

South Australia’s 17 and Under Netball team took out gold at the recent Netball National Championships, held in Canberra.

Tenison Woods College welcomed the Rowville Sports Academy basketball teams to the College for a 3 day training program.

We invite all female members of the Tenison Woods College community to join us for a night of relaxation and fun with other mums, grandmas, aunties and sisters!

Congratulations to former Poplars student Jim McIntosh, who during the Christmas Holidays, was presented with an award from the Goverment of South Australia by His Honorable Hieu Van Le AC. Jim is now working successfully here in Mount Gambier at Orana. Well done!

The Friends of Music are organising a pie-drive as a fundraiser for the music department. This week, all families should receive a pie-drive form with pies for sale from Homestyle bakery at $9 each. It would be fantastic if students could ask families and friends if they would like to stock up their freezer for winter and support the College at the same time.

On ANZAC day our College Captains, Lauren Holmes and Jordan Gould attended the Mount Gambier dawn service and laid a wreath on behalf of Tenison Woods College. Some of our students were also invited by Hit FM 96.1 to share their thoughts on what ANZAC day meant to them. Have a listen to their responses here.

Music students in Big Band, Concert Choir and Senior Vocal Ensemble are looking forward to the Generations in Jazz festival this weekend. This is the largest student music festival in the Southern Hemisphere and we are very fortunate that it is based in Mount Gambier. Year 8 students will have their Boostrix & Gardasil Dose 2 on Tuesday 9 May.

We ask that parents/caregivers please ensure that all Year 8 students have eaten that morning, and bring their drink bottle along to the immunisation sessions. Year 8 students are to wear PE uniform on this day.

You may have seen in the media that the proposed NAPLAN Online trial that our College was to be involved in has been cancelled. This means that students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 will now sit the NAPLAN as a paper test next week. To see the correct days and times please click 'read more'. 

Year 6 Tenison Woods College student Kai Allen has once again enjoyed a win on the track – this time in the Barossa Valley as part of the Karting South Australia Championships.

The Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA) is holding a 3 day workshop from 11-13 July for year 10 & 11 students who are interested in studying medicine.
